Futurama’s ‘Take My Money’ Meme Was All Too Real For Its Creator

The “Futurama” episode “Attack of the Killer App” brought the world a scene that would become a meme where Fry holds out a wade of cash and yells, “Shut up and take my money!”
Despite its downsides, Fry and the rest of the Planet Express crew are enamored with the eyePhone. Episode writer Patric Verrone revealed his own actions inspired the scene.
Verrone shared, “I was in
an Apple store, and I was trying to buy something. And the clerk was upselling me, and I said, ‘Shut up
and take my money!’”
While Verrone rejected being upsold, he used the line for Fry to show how consumers tend to be a little too cavalier with an object’s inexplicably high price.
