Futurama’s Pilot Cut An Entire Ellis Island Plotline For Fry
By DEVIN MEENAN
"Futurama" begins in 2999 and sees Fry wake up from being cryogenically frozen. Despite the thousands of years of rebuilding, New York still has a Statue of Liberty.
When Fry wakes up from being frozen, Leela is in charge of processing him. In an earlier draft, he went to Ellis Island to be processed at the Statue of Liberty, but he had a mishap.
Show creator David X. Cohen explained, "[Fry fell] out of the head of the Statue of Liberty and the statue moved and caught him. These are all the things you missed, viewers."
As wild as Fry's adventures have been on "Futurama," they could have been a whole other flavor of weird. "Futurama" is now streaming on Hulu.
