Futurama’s Creators Have A New Rule For Fry And Leela’s Relationship
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In “Futurama,” Fry and Leela shared an uncertain romantic dynamic, with Fry struggling to tell Leela how he felt. They took a significant turn when they began dating in Season 10.
During an interview with Comic Book Resources, co-creator David X. Cohen, along with producers Claudia Katz and Crystal Chesney-Thompson, unveiled a new rule for the couple.
The established rule halts the endless “new girlfriend” or “new boyfriend” episodes for Fry and Leela. They are now prohibited from seeing other people in future episodes.
Cohen explained the rule, “We might as well see where Fry and Leela can go together. That's our internal decision because we think it would be upsetting to go some other way.”
Fry and Leela now share a legitimate relationship, and struggle to keep things working; she still thinks he's a doofus, but has come to accept his warmth and sincerity.
