Fox's Bones Had An Awkward Behind-The-Scenes Issue On Its First Day
By DANIELLE RYAN
On its first day of shooting, the Fox series "Bones" experienced a behind-the-scenes mishap involving a special effects decapitation, per the book "Bones: The Official Companion."
During the filming of the episode "A Boy in a Tree," the special effects team had to create a realistic-looking fake body designed to drop its head on command for a scene.
Special effects makeup team co-lead Chris Yagher explained that they planned to use a remote-controlled latch in the head and neck to disconnect the head and make it fall off.
However, when the time came to shoot the scene, the latch failed to work despite multiple attempts, causing significant frustration and embarrassment for the special effects team.
Eventually, they devised a manual rig using a hidden cable directly connected to the latch, allowing them to yank it open and achieve the desired jump scare effect.
