Fox Forced Futurama To Cut A Seemingly-Harmless Proposition Infinity Joke
By MICHAEL BOYLE
A theme of "Futurama" is that the future isn't much different, such as in the "Proposition Infinity" episode mirroring California's Prop 8 of same-sex marriage.
Despite tackling a controversial subject, the episode wasn't all that contentious. However, there was some behind-the-scenes controversy with the censors.
In a 2017 "Ask Me Anything" thread on Reddit, co-creator David X. Cohen shared what jokes that Fox made them cut from that episode in particular.
Cohen explained, “When the show was edited for syndication and possible earlier broadcast times, the Fox censor would not let Bender say 'I'm our A in the Hole.'”
While the line is a mild play on the phrase "ace in the hole," the episode did feature an arguably more inappropriate joke where Bender calls himself "a master debater."
