Five Nights At Freddy’s Creator Demanded A Full Rewrite Of The Film
By BJ COLANGELO
Any film adaptation of the video game "Five Nights at Freddy's" would be a challenge, but producer Jason Blum was confident because the game’s creator, Scott Cawthon, was on board.
Blum said, "Scott has a very clear idea of what he wants the movie to be, and I think because we're using the same creator as the game in Scott, I think there'll be a great movie."
Blumhouse has had the rights to Cawthon's gaming franchise since 2017, but the road to a film has been difficult, mainly due to Cawthon’s scrapping an entire screenplay.
"I had a script written; [...] but I tossed it," Cawthon explained. "I had a different idea for it, one that I liked better. I take responsibility for this delay; it's my fault."
He added, "I hate delaying [...] but I have to go with my instincts on what I think will be exciting and interesting and what I think the fanbase will really want to see."
Along with a script rewrite, another reason the film has taken so long is due to a change of directors. Emma Tammi ("The Wind") replaced Chris Columbus ("Harry Potter") who left.
The film will be in theaters and on Peacock on October 27, 2023, and apparently will incorporate elements from across the franchise, rather than follow the original game’s plot.
