Everything You Need To Remember Before Watching X-Men ‘97

Professor X
At the end of the original X-Men series, an energy disruptor device is used against Professor Charles Xavier, causing him to do severe psychic damage to himself.
The only way to save Professor X from death was with alien technology, but he would need to stay at the Shi’ar Throneworld, effectively “dying” on Earth.
Magneto
Although Magneto is typically presented as the X-Men’s archnemesis, he and Professor X have a long history as friends, and their relationship often alters their behavior.
Despite being prepared to go to war during the finale, Magneto willingly gives it up to help save Xavier’s life. The ending implies Magneto would try to be more like his friend.
Genosha
Genosha is a nation on an island in the Indian Ocean south of Madagascar that was promoted as a safe haven for mutants, though this proved to be a sham.
The island was actually used to enslave mutants, but Magneto and his Acolytes went to Genosha to help free those captured. Eventually, they turned the island into a sincere refuge.
Bishop
While the time-traveling mutant Bishop is in the original series, he wasn’t a member of the team. Instead, he was trying to assassinate Gambit to prevent a horrible future.
After some misunderstandings, finding the real cause of his future, and an intervention from another time-traveling mutant named Cable, Bishop restored his timeline.
Morph
In the original animated series, it seemed that the Sentinels killed Morph during their first encounter. However, Mister Sinister later revived and brainwashed him.
In “X-Men ’97,” Morph is again part of the team, but the shapeshifter has a new design, complete with pale skin, a featureless face, and a bald head.
