Everything Everywhere All At Once Put A Russo Brothers Theory To The Test
By ERNESTO VALENZUELA
Through their ABGO production company, the Russo Brothers released the film "Everything Everywhere All At Once" from the Daniels duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. By working on the project with Daniels, the Russos got to test out a story structuring theory that they had previously only used on their own films.
In an interview, the Russos explained that they start with a three-page story document, which leads to the full script later on. They explained, “Basically, the first page is Act 1, the second page is Act 2 and the third page is Act 3. [...] Once we do that three-pager, we go to a 10-pager where we start to infuse character and thematics, and we do some sample dialogue.”
Once the document has incorporated characterization, themes, and some lines, the Russos say that it is then “very easy to write a script.” Their justification for doing this process is that “[y]ou need to agree as a group on what that story is before you waste your time turning it into a much larger document that's harder to unravel.”
