Every MCU Movie and TV Show To Watch Before Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
By JAMIE GERBER
Captain America: Civil War
“Captain America: Civil War” turned the MCU upside down by pitting our favorite heroes against each other and more importantly, introducing the world to Chadwick Boseman’s pitch-perfect Black Panther. Boseman’s T’Challa is warm but regal, charismatic yet understated, and instantly cemented Black Panther as one of the MCU’s most beloved heroes.
Black Panther
After T’Challa’s spectacular debut in “Captain America,” 2018’s “Black Panther” gave fans everything they’d hoped for. The film brought the world of Wakanda to life and is a triumph on so many levels its importance cannot be overstated. “Black Panther” is one of the MCU’s finest entries, and was the first superhero movie nominated for an Academy Award.
Avengers
In both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” T’Challa and Wakanda play a pivotal role when Black Panther and his forces make a stand alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Thanos. These movies were so impressive that much of Phase 4 has felt insignificant in comparison, but hopefully “Wakanda Forever” will change that.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
This 2021 show is likely not to figure too much into the plot of “Wakanda Forever,” which is kind of a relief since it was one of the weaker Marvel offerings on Disney+. However, characters from Wakanda do appear, like the Dora Milaje, and the show expanded Bucky’s White Wolf connection to Wakanda, which could become significant moving forward.
What If…?
“What If…?” isn’t something you have to watch, but it’s certainly worth it to see Boseman’s final appearance as T’Challa. The animated series follows fun, side adventures of Marvel characters but doesn’t impact the MCU continuity, and although T’Challa doesn’t appear in every episode, Boseman won a posthumous Emmy for his performance in the series.
