Predator 2
There were plans to bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger as deadly mercenary Dutch Schaefer in "Predator 2" before settling on an entirely new cast starring Danny Glover.
Producer John Davis said Schwarzenegger opted to do "Terminator 2" instead after a pay dispute, and they considered Patrick Swayze and Steven Seagal before casting Glover.
Alien vs. Predator
"Predator 2" ends with a tease that the Predators have hunted the xenomorphs from the "Alien" franchise. A xenomorph skull is displayed on the ship.
"The Hunt: Alien vs. Predator" would have followed the comics in 1991, but Fox opted to do a fourth "Alien" instead. "Alien vs. Predator" with an original story came out in 2004.
Predator 3
In 1994, screenwriter Alex Litvak pitched a third Predator movie in which Schwarzenegger's Dutch character lived in relative exile since the events of the 1987 original film.
The story had a crew of Predators setting an elaborate trap to ambush Dutch. The studio shot down the pitch, and Schwarzenegger was not interested in reprising his role.
Predators
Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez pitched "Predator 3," with warriors from different historical eras, swashbuckling Spanish pirates, human-Predator hybrids, and Schwarzenegger.
The idea was too ambitious for special effects technology at the time, and out of budget. In 2009, Fox contacted Rodriguez about using his pitch for what became 2010's "Predators."
Though Rodriguez produced the project, it was rewritten by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. It was far different from the initial pitch, omitting Dutch, the pirates, and the hybrids.
Alien vs. Predator 3
Before the release of the 2007 sequel "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem," visual effects supervisor Liam O'Donnell wrote a pitch picking up at the tease at the end.
The film's directing brothers, Greg and Colin Strause, also had ideas for a sequel, but "Requiem" underperformed at the box office, so the studio quietly tabled all plans.
