Dune: The Sisterhood: Emily Watson And Shirley Henderson Will Star in the HBO Max Series
By ERIN BRADY
“Dune: The Sisterhood,” the prequel series to Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of “Dune,” has revealed that Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson will star as Valya and Tula Harkonnen, respectively. These characters were introduced in the 2012 novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Frank Herbert’s son, Brian Herbert.
In “Dune” lore, Valya and Tula are sisters who become part of an underground organization, the Sisterhood of Rossak, the precursor to the Bene Gesserit from the original novels and Villeneuve’s adaptation. Diane Ademu-John, known for her work on “The Haunting of Bly Manor” and “Medium,” will lead the project as the showrunner, with Villeneuve serving as executive producer.
Brian Herbert and his daughter Kim are also joining the project as producers, along with others such as Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, and Cait Collins. It’s unclear if the series will be a faithful adaptation, but reports of the official logline say it will follow “The Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.”
