Dune: Part Two Removed A Heartbreaking Subplot From The Book
By ETHAN ANDERTON
Longtime fans of Frank Herbert's "Dune" may have taken the appearance of the blue scarf in the "Dune: Part Two" trailer to hint that Paul and Chani would have a son in the movie.
However, “Part Two” diverges from the book as it takes place in a span of months rather than years, making the child and a heartbreaking moment from the book impossible.
Chani and Paul have a son together in the book named Leto II, who is killed in a Sardaukar raid. While the raid still happens in “Part Two,” the couple never had a child.
If "Dune: Messiah" is adapted into a movie and enough time has passed, Chani could give birth to Paul’s twins, as the two consummate their love for each other in “Part Two.”
