Dune: Part Two Is Making One Major Change To The Book’s Story
By JEREMY MATHAI
Director Denis Villeneuve seemingly did the impossible with his 2021 film. He faithfully translated author Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic, “Dune.”
However, Villeneuve told Total Film magazine there are some things from the book he wants to change for “Dune: Part Two,” specifically for Chani and Lady Jessica Atreides.
He said, “Strangely, Jessica’s more in the background in the second part [of the novel] — I thought that was not proper. She’s still Lady Jessica, the main architect of the story.”
Villeneuve explained Lady Jessica would have “character presence.” While Chani plays a significant role in the book’s second half, the film will further flesh out her character.
During the cast interview with Total Film magazine, Zendaya explains her character: “In the book, Chani meets Paul and is like, ‘Alright, this is the guy. I support you.’”
Zendaya said, “In our film, in no way does she bend how she feels. She’s strong in her convictions. Even when she’s falling in love, she still doesn’t like what [Paul] represents.”
