Dune 2’s Desert Set Had A Brutal Side-Effect On The Cast And Crew

“Dune: Part Two” will hit theaters on March 1, 2024, to continue telling Frank Herbert’s celebrated 1965 sci-fi epic of Paul Atrides on the desert planet of Arrakis.
The desert scenes in both films were shot in Wadi Rum, Jordan, and in the Liwa Oasis in the United Arab Emirates, which posed some difficulties for the cast and crew.
Austin Butler, who plays the evil Feyd-Rautha, told Variety that the temperature nearly made him faint. Butler’s latex cap for his character made the heat even worse.
Butler explained, “It was 110 degrees and so hot. [...] It became like a microwave. There were people passing out from heat stroke. And that was just my first week.”
However, the experience wasn’t all bad. Butler added, “It really bonds the entire crew. [...] There’s something so humbling about being in such an uncomfortable environment.”
