Doc Holliday’s Coin Trick In Tombstone Is A Classic Val Kilmer Move
By DANIELLE RYAN
In the 1993 Western “Tombstone,” Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) plays poker with some ne'er-do-wells and idly toys with a coin, moving it across his fingers with trained, fluid motions.
Kilmer's ability to do that coin trick in “Tombstone” is a great touch for his character, but it's not the first time the actor has done that kind of finger trick in a film.
In the 1985 comedy “Real Genius,” Kilmer plays slacker super-genius Chris and rolls quarters across his fingers during a classroom scene in the same way he did in “Tombstone.”
Kilmer’s naval aviator character Tom “Iceman” Kazansky also did a version of the coin trick in 1986’s “Top Gun,” except he did it with a pen instead of a coin.
