The trailer for “Dune: Part Two” shows that the movie will continue the story of Paul Atreides, but director Denis Villeneuve wants to clarify that it isn’t a sequel.

Villeneuve shared, “It’s important — it’s not a sequel, it’s a second part. There’s a difference ... I wanted the movie to really open just where we left the characters.”

He continued, “There’s no time jump. I wanted dramatic continuity with part one.” The new film will pick up moments after the first one ends and show Paul adapting to his new life.

Frank Herbert’s “Dune” has long been considered nearly impossible to adapt into a movie, and while there have been attempts, they failed to translate the novel onto the big screen.

However, as a passionate fan of Herbert’s novels, Villeneuve decided the best way to accomplish this seemingly impossible feat would be to break the movie into two parts.

The first “Dune” may have ended on a cliffhanger; the reason wasn’t to tease a sequel but rather to signify the end of one arc in Paul’s journey and the beginning of a new one.
