Debra Jo Rupp And Kurtwood Smith 'Didn't Need Convincing' To Take Part In That '90s Show
By MATTHEW BILODEAU
Netflix is reviving a beloved series with “That ’90s Show,” a sequel to the hit sitcom “That ’70s Show.” While some fans are wary of the new series due to many former castmates appearing mainly as guest stars, others are optimistic given that Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith reprise their roles and join as executive producers.
According to Variety, series co-creator Bonnie Turner ensured that Rupp and Smith were onboard from the start, explaining, “They didn’t need convincing for a second [...] They both said separately: ‘If you’re there, we’re there.’ They read the scripts and were very valuable in talking to us about how Red and Kitty have aged and maybe they’re like this.”
“That ’90s Show” writer Lindsey Turner also shared how vital the actors’ input was for developing their characters, saying, “Part of the reason that we knew we were doing good, was those conversations were funny, and nuanced and interesting.” Every episode of "That '90s Show" will be available to stream on Netflix starting January 19, 2023.
