David Harbour And Ryan Reynolds Bonded Over Their Superhero Box Office Bombs
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
David Harbour is best known as Chief Jim Hopper on “Stranger Things,” but he also played the title character in the 2019 “Hellboy” reboot. The project, based on the Dark Horse Comics character of the same name, was a flop, as it faced negative remarks from critics and fans, on whom the film failed to leave a lasting impression.
“Hellboy” faced an uphill battle from the moment it was announced, with Harbour later blaming its failure on fans who were angry about a reboot. Harbour shared with GQ UK, “Immediately when it began, even when it was announced, I realized that people did not want that character reinvented. I was very naïve and optimistic about what we were going to do.”
On opening day, Harbour called Ryan Reynolds to ask for advice. Harbour asked Reynolds, “Hey man, I just need to know something. You know ‘Green Lantern?’ Huge flop for you. What the f*** is that like, because I think I'm going to hit that right now. Am I gonna be okay? Am I gonna survive this?” He didn’t share Reynolds’ response, so one can only imagine how the conversation went.
