Danny Boyle Is Directing A Dance Adaption Of The Matrix, But What Does That Mean?
By ERIN BRADY
Yes, you read that right. As surprising as it may sound, Warner Bros. Theater Ventures, a division of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced that it will be bringing “The Matrix” to life in an unexpected way with a stage show titled “Free Your Mind.” Here’s everything we know so far.
Free Your Mind” will be directed by Danny Boyle, choreographed by Kenrick “H2O” Sandy, and will feature music composed by Michael “Mikey J.” Asante. The official press release describes the show as “…a thrilling journey through ‘The Matrix’ and into a new realm of possibilities,” and it is expected to open in Manchester’s Factory International theater in October 2023.
In light of the talent working on this project, as well as its immersive aspects such as large-scale sculptures by artist Es Devlin, this seems like a cool idea, but, let’s be honest, it’s a weird move. Considering that earlier iterations of “The Matrix” franchise have diluted the LGBTQ premise of the original film for commercial reasons, fans might be right to worry about this next step.
