Dan Harmon’s Community Movie Problems Only Made Him Love It More
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
While the 2015 “Community” series finale teased the “#andamovie” part of the beloved show’s rallying cry, “six seasons and a movie,” fans are still waiting for the film.
Show creator Dan Harmon has been trying to get the movie going, but the biggest problem is cast availability simply because the series’ stars got too famous.
In 2015, Joel McHale, who plays Jeff Winger, stated that all the actors on the show have grown significantly, and their rates may not be affordable anymore.
Meanwhile, Harmon was less sure about it happening, given how busy he became with the hit Adult Swim animated series “Rick and Morty” and other projects.
There have been several talks about getting the film going, including Harmon teasing the possibility after an online cast reunion with special guest Pedro Pascal in 2020.
In 2021, Harmon shared that the “gears are turning” on the movie, but he was also unsure about the movie’s plot, and if it should cater to new viewers and old viewers alike.
Harmon added, “The only problems are becoming the creative ones, which is great, because I love those problems. I love having these conversations, and they’re being had.”
