Community Hid Easter Eggs On The Classroom Whiteboard
By VALERIE ETTENHOFER
"Community" made full use of every available inch in the camera's frame, mostly using the whiteboards and green chalkboards to deliver jokes, riddles, and other stories.
Season 2’s board gags were simple, such as the question about evolution in “Cooperative Calligraphy” that crossed out the word “monkeys” and replaced it with “Pierce.”
The chalkboard was usually related to the plot. It displayed “Ten Reasons Not To Let Your Friends Do Drugs” after a character named Starburns died in a meth lab explosion.
Other times, questions appeared on the chalkboard, like, "Who is Ed, Dr. McNamara, and Mr. Kinney?," referencing "RoboCop," who appears during the episode.
In the Season 4’s finale, when it seemed the show might be canceled, the board included a grateful message: "Thanks for your attendance and continued support."
The Season 5 finale observed the show’s second cancellation with a heartbeat flatlining on the board. Viewers were also invited to screenshot the board and write their jokes on it.
