Christopher Nolan Unearthed An Oppenheimer Detail Even Historians Missed
By JEREMY MATHAI
Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” is based off of “American Prometheus,” written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, but there is one detail in the movie that isn’t in the book.
In Jada Yuan’s book “Unleashing Oppenheimer,” it was revealed that David Hill’s (Rami Malek) testimony against Lewis Strauss was overlooked by Bird and Sherwin.
Christopher Nolan found David Hill’s testimony during his own research. Nolan was impressed with his discussion of Strauss’ vengeful nature, so he put it in the movie word-for-word.
On the testimony, Nolan said, “His testimony was devastating because he literally talked about Strauss's vengeful nature. These things don't happen in real life, usually.”
When Kai Bird read through the script he had no idea who Hill was. He remarked that it was “delightful” that Nolan had found something they hadn’t explored.
