Christopher Nolan Never Thought Memento Would Confuse So Many People

"Memento" was a huge hit when it was released in 2000, thanks to its reverse narrative story structure. However, some had trouble following what was happening in the movie.
While its home release had a special feature where director Christopher Nolan explained the story, the filmmaker told MTV that he never expected people to be so befuddled.
Nolan said he was working with tropes common to the film noir genre, adding, "Amnesia is such a part of film noir. I just saw it as part of a movie I wanted to see."
He continued, "So I didn't anticipate how much it would spin some heads. I never anticipated that at all." Luckily, the movie would be a big hit and helped launch Nolan's career.
