Christian Bale Once Fell Asleep Filming A Batman Begins' Scene
By JOE ROBERTS
Christian Bale takes his roles so seriously that he'll even commit to massive weight changes to help get into character, evidenced by his 121-pound frame in “The Machinist” and his 40-pound gain to play Dick Cheney in “Vice.” Considering his fierce dedication to his craft, it's not surprising that Bale was once so exhausted that he fell asleep on set while shooting “Batman Begins.”
Bale nodded off during a scene with Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. He told Uproxx, “In the scene, I was meant to be waking up, so I laid down and just fell asleep. And I didn't hear ‘action.’ So, Michael and Morgan were talking, and I was supposed to join in. I woke up with Michael Caine poking me in the ribs and going, ‘Look at that! He's bloody fallen asleep, hasn't he?’”
While it might be unusual, actors falling asleep on set isn't unheard of, as filming schedules aren’t conducive to actors maximizing their rest. Considering getting into character is such a grueling process for Bale, coupled with his Batman training and some serious pressure to pull off the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine should have let the poor man sleep.
