Chris Pratt Kicked Off His Career By Making The 'Worst Movie' He'd Ever Seen
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In a 2017 interview with Vanity Fair, Chris Pratt told the story of how he landed his first acting job after dropping out of community college to take odd jobs. Pratt eventually landed in Hawai'i, slept in his van, and worked as a server before a chance encounter with Rae Dawn Chong that led to his first role.
Pratt re-enacted the encounter to Vanity Fair, having said to Chong, “I'm your server,” Chong replying, “I'm Rae Dawn Chong,” Pratt responding, “You're a movie star,” Chong commenting, “You're cute. Do you act?” and Pratt declaring, “F*** yeah, I act. Put me in a movie.” Pratt then landed the lead role in “Cursed Part 3,” a satirical horror short that Chong wrote and directed.
When implored by Vanity Fair’s Rich Cohen to describe “Cursed Part 3,” Pratt bluntly stated, “It was the worst movie I'd ever seen.” Fortunately, Chong continued to act and Pratt has nabbed the respective roles of voicing both Garfield and Mario, not to mention Peter Quill in “Guardians of The Galaxy.”
