Chevy Chase’s Best Movie Wouldn't Exist Without Stanley Kubrick
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
Prior to directing "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" in 1989, Jeremiah S. Chechik had overseen many TV commercials and music videos, like Van Halen's "When It's Love.”
In an interview with the New York Times in the late 1980s, Stanley Kubrick referred to several hot new TV commercials as his "favorite American filmmaking."
The comment was a joke but Kubrick was referring to the ultra-stylish ads that Chechik had directed. Almost immediately, some major studios reached out to offer him directing jobs.
