Chevy Chase Stole This Classic SNL Line From An X-Rated Film He Starred In
By JEREMY SMITH
Thanks to Woody Allen’s film "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask)," low-production value adult comedies began to thrive in the 1970s.
Following the trend, satirist Ken Shapiro created “The Groove Tube,” an X-rated parody of television that featured sexual content, nudity, and a young Chevy Chase.
Chase stole his iconic Weekend Update line "Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow" from Ken Shapiro’s anchorman character from that sketch, who says it to sign off.
Shapiro and Chase would work together again in the 1981 sci-fi comedy “Modern Problems,” but while the film had moderate success, Shapiro’s career was past its peak.
