Carrie Fisher’s Final Movie Is Finally Headed To Theaters
By RYAN SCOTT
“Wonderwell,” the last movie that “Star Wars” icon Carrie Fisher starred in before her untimely passing, is finally being released. It is a modern-day fairy tale filmed in 2016.
Vertical Entertainment has officially acquired the film and has planned a theatrical release of June 23, 2023, with a digital release to follow.
“Wonderwell” will also star Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, Sebastian Croft, and Kiera Milward. Director Vlad Marsavin confirmed there would be a dedication to Fisher.
According to the film’s synopsis, Violet embarks on a life-changing adventure in this “coming-of-age fairy-tale set between modern-day Italy and the fantastical realm just beyond.”
The film faced a long seven-year delay after Carrie Fisher’s death, though it wasn’t the only reason for the holdup, explained the director.
Marsavin said, “The visual effects on a movie of this magnitude take time, but we were challenged with Covid lockdowns and, of course, the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher.”
Although Fisher’s passing was tragic and greatly affected the film’s production, Marsavin added, “Now is the perfect time to share her magical on-screen moments as Hazel.”
