Carrie Fisher Fought For A Change To Return Of The Jedi’s Jabba Scene
By BILL BRIA
While Princess Leia’s capture by Jabba is part of the rescue plan in “Return of the Jedi,” actress Carrie Fisher had an issue with the sequence of the other characters’ responses.
After Leia is captured, she is turned into one of Jabba’s slaves and forced to wear a revealing outfit. However, none of the other heroes address this new status.
The only dialogue Leia has after being captured is a brief exchange of words to confirm she’s alive and present during the scene in Jabba’s palace when all the heroes are gathered.
She lacked dialogue because her role in the rescue plan was to be captured and subjected by Jabba. Regardless, Fisher suggested a change to the dialogue to enhance the scene.
In a Star Wars Insider interview, Fisher shared, “As my co-travelers [Luke, Han and Chewie] are walking away, I wanted to say, ‘Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine ... Seriously.”
Although the line would have worked for her character and foreshadowed her eventual triumph over Jabba, the filmmakers ignored her suggestion.
