Carol Kane Explains Pelia’s Odd Accent In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 2 introduced viewers to the ship’s new engineer, a Lanthanite named Pelia, who has a peculiar accent that doesn’t resemble anything on Earth.
Pelia’s actress Carol Kane shared that she invented her accent for the role and said on an episode of “The Ready Room” that she was grateful for the creative leeway.
As her character is of a species that can live for thousands of years, Kane said she wanted to bring “a comfort, an ease with her wisdom, her knowledge, and her power” to Pelia.
She continued, “A voice was born out of that [...] And that was really wonderful to do and have them accept that I would do that.”
In an interview with Variety, Kane noted that she wanted her character to sound a little implacable so that no one could quite nail where she had come from.
