Buffy The Vampire Slayer Nearly Starred A Different, Award-Winning Actress
By DEVIN MEENAN
While it’s difficult to imagine anyone in the starring hero of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn’t the only option for the TV show.
In addition to co-star Charisma Carpenter trying out for the part, award-winning actress Natasha Lyonne revealed on “The Howard Stern Show” that she was the WB’s “first choice.”
The actress explained, “When the WB first started, they asked me to do any of the shows, ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Buffy.’” However, Lyonne was only 16 at the time.
She continued, “I told them the only thing I’d want to do is some Carol Burnett sketch show for the WB, but then I decided I did not want to be committed when I was 16 years old.”
Although Lyonne could have no doubt done a fantastic job in the role, her New York accent may have been too thick to pass as a valley girl.
