Bob Odenkirk Hadn't Seen A Full Breaking Bad Episode Before Stepping Onto Set
By MATT RAINIS
Since his first appearance on screen, Bob Odenkirk perfectly embodied the Saul Goodman character of “Breaking Bad.” However, at the time “Breaking Bad” wasn’t the ratings juggernaut it has since proven itself to be, so Odenkirk hadn’t seen a single full episode of the show before starting his role in the second season.
According to Odenkirk, he was in a career slump before taking on the Goodman role, so when he was offered the part, he accepted immediately without any background understanding of “Breaking Bad.” In an interview, Odenkirk admitted, “I didn’t even watch a whole episode, but I didn’t need to, I got it.”
Apparently, Odenkirk did get it because he was able to give depth to a one-dimensional character and turn Goodman into more than a conman with a few good quips and one-liners. In the “Breaking Bad” spin-off, “Better Call Saul,” Odenkirk showed off even more of his acting chops by turning his greedy and cowardly character into a likable figure.
