Bo-Katan Brings A Star Wars Legends Location Back Into Canon
By BRYAN YOUNG
During the plan to rescue the young Foundling Ragnar from the top of a mountain, Bo-Katan Kryze tells the other Mandalorians, “These are no higher than the peaks of Kyrimorut. I used to climb them in basic training.” While many might not be familiar with the peaks of Kyrimorut, they have a special significance in the Legends of the “Star Wars” canon.
Author Karen Traviss brought Kyrimorut into “Star Wars” with her “Republic Commando” series, a spinoff of the video game of the same name. These books revealed that Kyrimorut was home to an unusual sect of Mandalorians: Clan Skirata, a covert of misfits who took in clones that deserted the Clone Wars and chose to live as Mandalorians.
Kyrimorut became a place known for refuge and found family, much like how the Mandalorian covert in Season 3 is shaping up to be. One book plot saw a kidnapped Kaminoan scientist brought to Kyrimorut in the hopes of curing the clones’ accelerated aging, which could be tied to the events in “The Bad Batch” and link the two series together.
