Better Call Saul Season 6 Saved Filming Its Most Emotional Scene For Last
By JOSHUA MEYER
Spoiler Warning!
This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “Better Call Saul.”
Season 6, Episode 13 of “Better Call Saul” offers one last bit of wordplay with the title of its series finale, “Saul Gone.” It turns out that Jimmy and Kim's final scene together in “Better Call Saul” was also the very last scene that the show's cast and crew shot. Co-showrunner Peter Gould offered a partial post-mortem of the episode in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Gould gave his own interpretation as to why Jimmy confessed to all of his crimes in court and traded the lighter 7-year prison sentence for an 86-year life sentence. He said, “[Jimmy] is following [Kim’s] example. If she can put up with all this pain, maybe he can too. Somehow her honesty makes him very dissatisfied with this victory he's had over the system.”
By owning up to his crimes before relinquishing his freedom, Jimmy has become himself again and the Saul persona is now gone, though only Kim may know it. Gould added, “He's going to live with the name Saul Goodman for the rest of his life, whether he likes it or not. But Kim is the one person who knows that Saul Goodman's gone, and the guy who's left is Jimmy McGill.”
