Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Confirms Yes, Charles Deetz Is Dead
By JEREMY SMITH
When the teaser trailer for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" debuted, our reintroduction to the Deetz family was missing one: the family's patriarch, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones).
For a couple of decades, Jones was a distinctive character actors playing buffoons like Ed Rooney in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and Skip Tyler in "The Hunt for Red October."
Jones was a welcome presence in any film lucky enough to cast him. This changed abruptly in 2002 after a child pornography investigation targeting multiple Hollywood personalities.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrested the "Beetlejuice" actor for possessing illicit material and coercing a 14-year-old boy into taking sexually explicit photographs.
Ultimately, Jones was sentenced to five years' probation and forced to register as a sex offender for life. Some filmmakers have taken a chance on Jones post-sentencing, but Burton isn't one of them.
