Baz Luhrmann Has Big Plans For Austin Butler's Elvis Performance In The Future
By JOE ROBERTS
Whatever your opinions of Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” we can all agree that Austin Butler truly commits to his performance as the iconic singer. Butler spent two years studying the singer’s mannerisms, speaking voice, and singing voice, even performing “entire concerts” as the man himself, and Luhrmann has just revealed he has big plans for these performances.
Luhrmann is considering cutting together all of the footage of Butler on-stage to create a “director’s assembly” of concert performances. In an interview, Luhrmann said, “Austin did his concerts full out […] it was an out-of-body experience to watch him do those full concerts. So one day I will cut those full concerts together.”
Luhrmann said there are about four hours of footage of Butler performing as Elvis, including Butler entertaining the crowd in character between takes. While it might seem strange, doubters only have to watch Butler’s impressive camera test for the film when he performed Elvis’ breakout single “That’s Alright, Mama.”
