Battlestar Galactica’s Ending Caught The Network Off Guard
By JENNA BUSCH
A remake of the 1978 series, Ronald D Moore updated “Battlestar Galactica” for the modern age. When it came to end after just four seasons, the network was surprised.
In an interview with Empire Online, Moore said the show wasn't canceled by SYFY (known then as The Sci-Fi Channel) — he chose to end it himself.
Moore said he went to the network at the end of the third season, and told them that he didn't want to reach a point with the audience where they don't believe you anymore.
“You don't want to get to the point where the audience tunes in and says, 'Yeah, they're never going to get to f***ing Earth,” Moore added.
Concerned that viewers would grow cynical and lose interest, Moore said, “It felt like the show had honored us and it was time to honor the story and bring it to a conclusion."
