Avengers: Endgame Cut Two Wild Captain America Subplots
By SANDY SCHAEFER
Speaking with Gothamist, “Avengers: Endgame” writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely shared two wild Captain America (Chris Evans) storylines that didn’t make the final cut.
One subplot in Markus and McFeely’s notes read, “Steve Ages: Some dimensional horseplay could result in Steve Rogers aging to his actual hundred-year age.”
McFeely also shared another abandoned Captain America storyline from their notes that seemingly served as a jumping-off point for a major plotline that was a highlight of the film.
It read, “Steve somehow lands in 1945 [...] he needs an Infinity Stone in order to return to the present. Fortunately, Howard Stark has fished it out of the North Atlantic.”
This would’ve seen Steve Rogers crossing paths with Dominic Cooper’s Howard Stark, and it may have been an early prototype for the time travel subplot that made it into the movie.
The deserted 1945 subplot would’ve also led to Steve Rogers getting a glimpse at Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), thus setting up their eventual happy ending.
