Arnold Schwarzenegger Created Chaos In A Restaurant By Appearing In Terminator Makeup
By MATTHEW BILODEAU
The makeup in both of James Cameron’s “Terminator” films shows how intimidating the robotic assassin can be, especially when the layering of human flesh disguising the internal mechanical skeleton is revealed. While filming the first movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger thought it would be funny to use that makeup to scare some of the local people.
During Schwarzenegger’s promotion of “The Terminator” on “The Tonight Show,” the actor told Johnny Carson that he took a little detour to a nearby fine dining restaurant on his way back to the shooting location. Schwarzenegger went in full makeup, resembling the lumbering bloody mess of the T-800 after it gets run over by a truck.
No one knew the character yet, so Schwarzenegger was greeted by the host’s shocked face and horror when the actor requested a table in character. “It was the greatest reaction because the makeup was stunning,” described a laughing Schwarzenegger as others in the restaurant reacted similarly and began to panic, with many running out of the place, screaming.
