Whenever a new MCU film or show releases, fans eagerly await to see the new characters the studio introduces on the big and small screen to join the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Now, the MCU enters a new era, with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” kicking off Phase Five and bringing in a new character to help the titular heroes: MODOK.
While MODOK is a ruthless villain in the comics, director Peyton Reed’s version is actually Darren Cross, Hank Pym’s former protege and the first film’s antagonist, whom Ant-Man sent to the Quantum Realm. The audience learns that Cross was disfigured after his battle with Ant-Man and was discovered by Kang the Conqueror, becoming the tyrant’s henchman.
Scott and Cassie Lang try to convince MODOK to change, with the latter telling him, “It’s never too late to not be a dick.” Moved by Cassie’s words, MODOK helps the heroes in their fight with Kang but meets his demise, with his final words being, “At least I died an Avenger.” Jokes aside, fans may yet see a proper MODOK-Avengers team-up as the multiverse expands.
