Amazon Moving Forward With Marvel/Sony TV Shows, Starting With Silk Spider Society
By JEREMY MATHAI
Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are officially teaming up and moving ahead with multiple Marvel shows for streaming. Variety reports that “Silk: Spider Society” is the first of many new series that will debut on Prime Video, confirming rumors that Sony was pitching the series, which first began as a film project, to Amazon Studios.
“Silk” will bring Koren-American hero Cindy Moon center stage, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller serving as producers and “The Walking Dead” showrunner Angela Kang taking on the same role as well as executive producer. Lord and Miller said, “Angela is a pro’s pro whose perspective and creativity we greatly respect and admire. She’s also a hell of a lot of fun.”
Sony seems to be doubling down on its standalone universe of Marvel characters, which includes “Venom” and “Morbius,” and expanding into streaming shows. Those looking for more specific detail on the other shows and characters in the works are out of luck — but they needn’t worry, as Sony has almost 1,000 characters to help build its own franchise.
