Amanda Plummer’s First Day As Star Trek: Picard’s Vadic Had The Cast On Edge
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
In an interview with TV Line, showrunner Terry Matalas revealed that Amanda Plummer's performance as the villainous Vadic in “Star Trek: Picard” was a wildcard at first. Plummer was so busy shooting “Ratched” she was unavailable for rehearsals, and no one knew how Plummer would perform until she was on set — and the uncertainty left her co-stars uneasy.
A lot of “Picard” Season 3 had to be shot before Plummer’s arrival, leaving actors to talk to a blank viewscreen to be filled in later. Luckily, Plummer delivered, with Matalas saying, “We were all holding our breath, and [when] she gave that performance, [...] people were congratulating each other. We were so thrilled to have a classic, larger-than-life ‘Star Trek’ villain.”
As a longtime admirer of the actress, Matalas wrote Vadic with Plummer in mind. He said, “I have always had this fascination with Amanda Plummer. I mean, going back to her winning the Tony for ‘Agnes of God,’ to ‘The Fisher King’ to ‘Pulp Fiction’ to ‘The Prophecy.’ I just loved her.” The last-minute proposition for Plummer to play Vadic worked out well for “Picard.”
