Prime Video’s "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" explores the younger years of some more well-known characters during the Second Age and introduces a variety of new players in Middle-earth. Fans of the series had fun speculating if Sauron was going to make an appearance, something that the writers revealed they also enjoyed.
Gennifer Hutchinson, writer and executive producer for "The Rings of Power," said, "It was actually really fun, and people made some very funny memes about it, which I absolutely love and enjoy. I mean, I love fan engagement like that, and I think if you can get people guessing, especially if they're having fun with it … that's really a great part of the job."
She added, "We write shows to connect with people and to get people to feel things and ask questions, and so, if everybody's like 'that's Sauron, that's Sauron,' great, we did our job!" Hutchinson struggled to keep the knowledge a secret and feared disappointing fans with the reveal, but her work paid off as many viewers were excited to see the mystery solved.
