Alien Left Stanley Kubrick With A Burning Question For Ridley Scott
By JEREMY MATHAI
Ridley Scott’s classic “Alien” is an incredible feat of filmmaking that even left other acclaimed directors curious about how he accomplished certain tricks.
Scott revealed in Total Film magazine that he got a surprising call from Stanley Kubrick, who asked about how he pulled off a certain unforgettable moment in the movie.
The filmmaker recalled their exchange and Kubrick’s question about the famous chest-bursting sequence: “How on earth did you get that thing coming out of his chest?”
Scott shared, “I had John Hurt cut a hole in the table, lie in a horrible, awkward position, and I made a fiberglass shell ...’ He said, ‘I got it, I got it, I got it. Brilliant.’”
Kubrick himself is a master filmmaker who has developed techniques countless others have used over the years, making this particular call quite an achievement for Scott.
