Ahsoka Fixes A Controversial Character From Star Wars Rebels
By CAROLINE CAO
The new “Ahsoka” series finally brings fan-favorite “Star Wars: Rebels” characters to live-action, including the Twi’lek-human hybrid Jacen Syndulla, who’s played by Evan Whitten.
While Jacen’s debut was a brief 10-second appearance in the “Rebels” epilogue, his design raised a few eyebrows from fans, with some finding him an eyesore.
Jacen, the son of the human Jedi Kanan and the green-skinned Twi’lek Hera, had pale-orange skin and green hair instead of the usual Twi’lek lekku tendrils.
Some found the green hair inexplicable even by “Star Wars” standards, so Jacen’s yet-to-be live-action appearance intrigued people.
His final design for “Ahsoka” sees the show altering his animated appearance, giving him dark eyes and his father’s complexion yet keeping the green hair.
Animators most likely knew the “Rebels” character could make their way to live-action, prompting them to give Jacen hair rather than the tendrils typical of Twi’lek-human hybrids.
This decision and others like electing not to paint the young actor portraying Jacen orange were possibly made for practical reasons.
