Adam Driver's Best Role Nearly Went To Joaquin Phoenix
By BEN PEARSON
Director Leos Carax revealed that when Sparks pitched him the idea for "Annette" back in 2012, he initially envisioned Joaquin Phoenix as the lead character, Henry McHenry.
However, Phoenix's shy nature led to a missed meeting, which prevented his casting. The role eventually went to Adam Driver, who delivered one of his best performances.
"I don't like to meet actors with a script. I just wanted to see if he liked the idea. But he was too shy to meet," Carax explained in an interview with Indiewire.
Beyond his standout performance, Driver was also crucial in producing the film, securing financing, and ensuring its completion. Without him, "Annette" might not have been made.
