A Star Wars Original Trilogy Actor Told Ewan McGregor Not To Play Obi-Wan
By MICHAEL BOYLE
Despite having a beloved following, being a part of “Star Wars” isn’t always as good as it sounds. Some actors who have been part of the franchise have come to regret the decision.
When Ewan McGregor showed interest in the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy, his uncle and “Star Wars” alum Denis Lawson tried to dissuade him from taking the part.
Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy, doesn't hate the franchise, but he expressed frustration that his other work gets overshadowed by “Star Wars.”
McGregor shared in an interview that Lawson was bothered by how big his following was “because he did a couple of weeks work, sitting in a cardboard spaceship.”
McGregor shared, “He [Lawson] was one of the people who said, 'Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it.' And then the nearer I got to it, the more I wanted to do it.”
