“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was a groundbreaking series that subverted typical sexiest tropes that characterized women as helpless damsels in distress and men as their heroes.
Despite plenty of examples where characters have unrealistic superhuman strength, some in Hollywood couldn’t accept that a teenage girl might have these powers.
James Marsters, the actor behind Spike, explained, “It was a show that was subverting the lie that women can’t defend themselves, and it made certain people uncomfortable.”
Marster said the unidentified “Star Wars” alum pressed on until the actor finally said, “‘How tall is Bruce Lee?’ And that was the end of the conversation.”
He responded, “There’s three [stunt doubles for Buffy], they’re multiple black belts and believe me they could kill us right here. right now, without breaking a sweat.”
According to Marster, the unidentified “Star Wars” alum continued. Master finally said, “‘How tall is Bruce Lee?’ And that was the end of the conversation.”
