A Star Trek Scene Made Christina Chong & Paul Wesley Nearly Puke

Sometimes during the actual shooting of a scene, films and TV shows will utilize Augmented Reality (AR) walls, which are giant screens that broadcast moving virtual backgrounds.
The AR walls can be disorienting, which was certainly the case for Christina Chong, who experienced terrible seasickness while acting in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.”
In the episode “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow,” Chong and co-star Paul Wesley filmed a scene in a stationary car while the background swirled past them on AR screens outside.
Both actors suffer from motion sickness, and the sequence made them nauseated. Chong said, “We were like, ‘Guys, we can't do this. We can’t do it. We can’t look at the wall.’”
Chong continued, “We literally were getting [...] out of the car onto the floor, heads in hands like, ‘Oh my god, we're gonna throw up.’ We have plastic bags down by our feet.”
“Literally, we were just trying to survive shooting that scene,” Chong said. “It was just the worst thing ever if you have motion sickness.” Fortunately, the episode is enjoyable.
