In Emerald Fennell's daring film “Saltburn,” a particularly disturbing scene had to be edited to remove the squeals that it elicited on the set.
The film follows Barry Keoghan's Oliver Quick, a student at the University of Oxford, as he becomes obsessed with Jacob Elordi’s wealthy and popular character, Felix.
“Saltburn” is unabashedly sensual, and there’s a particularly provocative moment where Oliver spies on Felix indulging in personal satisfaction inside a bathtub.
After Felix finishes satisfying himself, Oliver sneaks into the tub and lustfully gulps up what remains of the protein-enriched tub water, even going so far as to rim the drain.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Fennell mentioned cinematographer Linus Sandgren, “And when Barry started to rim the drain, Linus squealed like a little girl.”
Sangren's audible expression was so loud that, as Fennell admitted, “we had to edit it out.” This reaction was precisely what she sought.
